A new report reveals firms are inflating fees and expenses, sucking millions out of companies creating jobs
 
Many workers long for the sense of security that only an old-fashioned pension can provide. The big insurers are well aware of this, and that's why many of them are offering new ways for investors to buy and build a pension on their own.
 
Public fund executives seeking flexibility on benefits, contributions




State News
 
Tucson is in the midst of fighting a pension battle against Tucson Police and Fire. It won a court ruling this afternoon which allows it to move forward with a new city policy which may make future pensions smaller for public safety officers
 
Stockton filed a revised debt-cutting plan last week that could lead to a deal with a holdout creditor, Franklin bonds, possibly enabling the city to emerge from bankruptcy without cutting pensions.
 
Chicago's bonds are trailing the municipal market, a sign that investors are leery about the city's finances as Illinois Governor Pat Quinn decides today whether to sign a bill fixing the metropolis's pensions.

(Maryland) The recent article on the improved finances of, but poor outlook for, traditional pensions ("Company pension plans shape up, ship out," June 1) was good but did not delve far enough into solutions.
 
Our governor - a former federal prosecutor - intends to break the law.
 
(Florida) Pension reform is a big issue that calls for tough decisions and hard choices. Those who haven't studied the issue will promote simple solutions that cannot work.
