May 9, 2009 - Soap Dispensers Sanitizers
May 09, 2009
HEALTH & SAFETY ALERT!!!!!

In recent months soap dispensers have been installed in various locations throughout all stations. The wall mounted, waterless, soap dispensers were affixed in conjunction with a new SOP covering the proper use of the soap stations.
The SOP was derived from CDC guidelines for anti-bacterial application that specifies an alcohol based product. The SOP is not accurate for the product that is actually contained in the soap dispensers that are currently operational. The soap is not alcohol based; rather the main ingredient is Benzalkonium Chloride.

Internet research indicates that Benzalkonium Chloride is a common product used for the following applications:
              Active Ingredient for Conditioners
              Antistatic Agent
              Detergent Sanitizers
Softener for textiles and paper products
              Acne Treatment
              Antimicrobials
              Disinfection Agents And Sanitizers
              Baby Lotions
              Algaecide
Sunscreen with SPF values greater than 15
         Eye Drops

Benzalkonium Chloride is a BENZENE based product.

Benzene, or benzol, is an organic chemical compound and a known carcinogen with the molecular formula C6H6.[1]
Therefore prolonged use of this product may pose a health risk.
