______________________________________________________________________
REMINDER – In the event a
member of the bargaining unit is called into the Chief’s Office and/or Deputy
Chief’s Office for a meeting/conference, and you suspect that said meeting may
lead to disciplinary charges or counseling, you are entitled to request that a
Union Representative.
However,
be advised that a Union Representative as defined by the Municipal Employee
Relation Act (MERA); Section 7-468 (b) – “when an employee organization
has been designated by the state board of labor relations as the representative
of the majority of the employees in an appropriate unit, or has been recognized
by the chief executive officer of a municipal employer as the representative of
the majority of employees in an appropriate unit, that employee organization
shall be recognized by the municipal employer as the exclusive bargaining agent
for the employees of such unit”. A representative of Local 801 shall
be a member of the Union’s Executive Board.
An
employee choosing to have a “rank & file” member of the
bargaining unit would not guarantee their rights under the regulations of the
State Board of Labor Relations.
Thank you.
