PITTSBURG, KS – Union firefighters from around Kansas descended upon city hall in Pittsburg to picket for their peers.
The union members believe Pittsburg firefighters should have a collective bargaining agreement with the city.
The president of the local 64 union says if a collective bargaining agreement were in place, Pittsburg and its firefighters would have had an easier time resolving past disputes.
He says the firefighters union asked to be placed on Tuesday's city hall agenda, but received an email from a city official claiming city commissioners are not interested in hearing about the issue.
Last year the city commission voted against a local union for firefighters.
"We want a written agreement executed by both parties, and lived up to by both parties," says Bert King of the Local 64. "How the city council is treating us right now, by shunning us, is an example of the problems going on in the big picture if you will."
